Rarely one can find spirit to honor extraordinary personalities in addition to their core events. In a unique concept, Hospitality Purchasing Managers’ Forum (HPMF) organized their ninth annual convention and awards between 10 to13th October,2019 at Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty. It’s unique, because HPMF thought out of the box. HPMF, along with their regular convention and awards, they felicitated and awarded extraordinary sports persons during their event. The event was organized in a mega way which became a talk of the town and set a benchmark. More than 250 delegates from 12 countries participated in the event. The theme of the event is the unique concept of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” which means “The World is One Family”.
Eminent Hospitality Honchos, Sports persons and well-known corporate leaders were invited to the event as Chief Guests and Guests of Honor. The delegates and all other participants experienced the magical world of Kerala through Cultural Shows, Cuisine, Visits to historical places, exotic display of produce from Kerala and ancient sports. One of the prominent highlights of the event was to organise a show at Cochin Harbour Terminus, a defunct railway station. The event held at this station became a talk of the town and was publicized by all leading print and electronic media. A railway-themed dinner was also organized at Cochin Harbour Terminus. The event was an eye opener for railways, as it would be thrown open for such events and for film shootings too in future. It was first time in history of Indian railway where a non-functional station was rented out for private party to held an event here.
It may be noted that HPMF was set up with an objective to bring people associated with the procurement function of the hotels into the forefront and get the recognition and respect at par with other managerial functionaries. HPMF is a huge platform where members started participating in leadership meets, seminars and forums. the feeling of being together in a group makes them safe and secure. The exposure and learning that comes with it are enormous. Overall, the industry has started recognizing procurement professionals, the hidden gems.
The following Navratna’s from sports world were awarded during the event that included Jaya Sharma – Indian cricketer, Dilip Tirkey – ex-captain of Indian hockey team, Abhilasha Mhatre – Captain of Indian National Women’s Kabaddi Team, Girish Sharma – Badminton player and Torchbearer for differently able sportsperson in India, Colonel Ranveer Jamwal – VSM, is the first Army officer to climb seven peaks, Ameya Waingankar – Karate, Suyash Jadhav – Indian Para Swimmer, Akash Anand and Akanksha Singh – Indian basketball player and captain of India Women’s National Basketball Team.
Conceived in 2010, HPMF today is a global organization with over 2600 members of the hospitality purchasing fraternity. A non-profit organization registered with the Charity Commissioner’s office, HPMF is first of its kind in India which aims to provide a platform for buyers from hospitality industry. The key elements of HPMF are training & development of procurement professionals, consolidated procurement, industry product standardization, volume discounts, improved professionalism in purchasing process, development of potential vendors, green initiatives and corporate social responsibilities.
