Indonesian Independence Day celebrated with regal pomp and spectacle in Trident Hotel on Wednesday, 28th August 2019 to commemorate the 74th Anniversary of Independence. The diplomatic reception was held in the presence of His Excellency Ade Sukendar, The Consul General of Indonesia in Mumbai.
Nand Kumar, Principal Secretary and Chief of Protocol officer of the Government of Maharashtra was the Chief Guest for the event. The reception was attended by almost all honorable diplomats from around the globe, posted in Mumbai. Many who’s who of Mumbai, top industries leaders and leading media were also present at the event.
The event was celebrated by cutting the Nasi Tumpeng which is the national dish of Indonesia and was presented to the Chief Guest. The reception served Indonesian delicacies to their guest which was enjoyed while the guest learned how to play Anklung, an Indonesian traditional music instrument.
His Excellency, Ade Sukendar – Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai said “Year 2019 is very significant and very special, as India and Indonesia are commemorating their seventy years of diplomatic relations. He emphasized India’s support during the Indonesia’s struggle for independence, which was proclaimed on August 17th, 1945 and also briefed about the current relations of the two countries”.
H.E. Sukender further elaborated “Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo recently met in Osaka, Japan, for the G20 Summit. Both leaders discussed various important issues to strengthen relationship between both countries. The discussion among them included to boost bilateral ties and enhance cooperation in trade and investment”.
He further added “Indonesia and India has set an ambitious $50 million target for bilateral trade over the next six years. Both leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation in a number of key areas including Economy, Defence and Maritime Security”.
H. E. CG Sukendar also promoted the forthcoming major event trade Expo Indonesia 2019 to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia for the period of October 16-20, 2019. All this series of events are expected to tap the economic and cultural potentials between the two friendly countries.
Chief Guest of the event, Nand Kumar, Principal Secretary and Chief of Protocol officer of the Government of Maharashtra spoke about the spirit of friendship between the two countries and about the strong will of India and Indonesia to increase and develop cooperation.
